IRVINE, Calif.--In a move to expand its chip product offering in military and aerospace applications, Microsemi Corp. today announced plans to acquire two Massachusetts-based companies--Compensated Devices Inc. of Melrose and New England Semiconductor Corp. of Lawrence.
Microsemi said it has agreed to buy 27-year-old Compensated Devices for $11.5 million in cash and one-year notes. In a separate transaction, Microsemi said it will purchase 16-year-old New England Semiconductor for $9.1 million in cash and notes.
Compensated Devices specializes in high-reliability diode, rectifier, and Schottky products. The company has developed a proprietary high-temperature glass sealing process that Microsemi said is considered to be the highest reliability manufacturing process available today. CDI had revenues of $10.9 million last year, said Microsemi.
New England Semiconductor produces aerospace-grade, high-reliability bipolar transistors. Microsemi said the company operates a highly automated and streamlined plant for high-reliability transistors and products certified to JAN-S, MIL-S-19500 and ISO9001 specifications. New England Semiconductor had revenues of $9 million in 2000, said Microsemi.
