ARM continues to dominate in mobile, while support for graphics processor grows

July 27, 2010 | Phil Ling | 222902992
ARM continues to dominate in mobile, while support for graphics processor grows ARM has posted its Q2 results for 2010 showing strong growth in revenue coming from mobile applications, with 13 licenses signed for broader applications including intelligent sensors, networking, smart energy metering and solid state drives.
With an average of 2.6 ARM-based processors in every mobile phone, ARM's continued dominance in the mobile sector looks secure, while technology outsourcing continues to provide financial input in the form of three licenses for royalty-bearing platforms of physicl IP, three companies adding their support to ARM's graphics processor; Mali, and the recently announced TSMC licenses for physical IP at 28nm and 20nm nodes. The company also cites the relevance of Freescale's new ARM Cortex-M4 based microcontroller family, Kinetis and the agreement with Microsoft.

Warren East, Chief Executive Officer, said: Freescale, Microsoft and TSMC all recently announced adoption of ARM's latest technology which will further increase ARM's market penetration and royalty potential in a broadening range of end applications."
