MUNICH, Germany — Intel Capital will lead the third round financing of internet telephony startup company Jajah. According to media releases here, the company with offices in the Silicon Valley, Luxembourg and Israel will obtain a total of $20 million.

Intel is not the only VC in the game. However, not details as to the partitioning of the financing round were released. The funds will be used to speed the development of next-generation global communications solutions.

The company offers technology for internet telephony. In contrast to competitors such as Skype however, the Jajah approach is server-based and does not require any software to be downloaded to the user's computer.

Besides financing the startup, Intel also plans to cooperate with Jajah for product development and marketing. Thus, the startup will get access to the Intel sales and development network. In addition, as a participant of Intel's IP access program, the Jajah developers will get access to the semiconductor giant's VoIP patent portfolio.

"We are aiming at developing future-oriented solutions that can be optimized for and integrated into mobile and fixed computers and communication devices of any kind", explained Jajah Co-founder Roman Scharf. Daniel Mattes, also one of the founders and chief developer, added: "Telephony soon will be solely IP-based. We will connect computers and phones on a fundamental level."

In addition, the company announced that Jeff Baeth will assume the position of the CFO, effective immediately. Baeth formerly worked in similar positions for companies such as VeriSign, Adobe and KPMG.
