Sunnyvale, Calif.—Maxim Integrated Products has introduced the MAX7359 2-wire interfaced, low-EMI key-switch controller that detects multiple key press and release events on up to 64 keys.

To provide such event detection, the MAX7359 generates and stores individual key codes in a FIFO register for each press and release to allow the monitoring of multiple key-switch events. To minimize total system cost, the MAX7359 reduces the burden of software development, and integrates debounce circuitry that eliminates the need for shift registers and RC filters.

Applications include smartphone keypads, gaming controls, and any other portable applications that require multiple key-entry detection.

The MAX7359 maximizes battery life by minimizing power consumption through an autosleep mode. For added flexibility, it provides up to seven open-drain logic outputs that can be configured to drive LEDs. Additionally, to ensure low-EMI operation, the MAX7359's key inputs are statically, not dynamically, monitored.
