PARIS Seeking to expand its design capacity and capabilities, Electronics design and manufacturing services group TES Electronic Solutions (Langon, France) has acquired Assystem's design center in Quimper, in the French region of Brittany. Financial details remained undisclosed.
By acquiring Assystem's design center in Quimper, TES Electronic Solutions said it will be able to deliver services from concept through volume manufacturing and lifecycle management by adding mechanical design, product certification and acoustics skills in addition to high-end hardware, software and wireless competences.
In parallel, Assystem explained it intends to focus more on its core business, which is delivery of services throughout the product life cycle, from R&D to operating support in the automotive, aerospace, technologies, energy-nuclear, naval-defense and life sciences sectors.
Gerard Brescon, executive vice-president of Assystem, stated: "The Quimper Design Centre skills and competences are much more aligned with the TES core strategy, and we believe that the true value of the employees will be much better realized with this transaction."
Assystem's design center in Quimper has 28 skilled engineers.
In February, TES announced its intention to expand its embedded hardware, software and system design team in India from currently 50 engineers to over 100 in over the next six months. The objective of the team is to focus on areas such as IP set top boxes, multimedia technologies and short range wireless applications including Bluetooth and RFID.
