LONDON Silicon IP licensor Ceva Inc. ((Herzelia, Israel) has teamed with communications network integrator and software supplier Aricent to demonstrate a licensable IP platform solution for LTE baseband terminals based on Ceva's DSP core at this week’s LTE World Summit that takes place in Berlin, Germany.
The platform is showcasing a Ceva DSP running several LTE physical layer functions purely in software, including PRACH and PUSCH.
The X1641 and XC DSPs have been specifically architected to overcome the tough power consumption, time-to-market and cost constraints associated with WiMAX, LTE and SDR wireless communications processors.
In February, when revealing the XC programmable DSP architecture, Ceva said it would support full transceiver processing for multiple air interfaces in software, including the emerging LTE standard class 5 and WiMAX II (IEEE 802.16m), alongside 3G, 3.5G, Wi-Fi, GPS and mobileTV.
According to Eyal Ben-Avraham, vice president, Partners and Ecosystems at Ceva : "Through this combination of technology, CEVA and Aricent can provide LTE terminal and infrastructure equipment manufacturers time-to-market, performance and cost advantages in a highly integrated, optimized LTE solution."
Aricent’s modular implementation of the LTE Category 3 UE PHY provides building blocks that offer the flexibility to implement an LTE PHY using the most appropriate architecture for the target silicon.
The Aricent LTE PHY also offers configuration flexibility between the different channel bandwidth ranging from 1.4 to 20 MHz.
*Separately at the LTE Summit , LTE protocol stack specialist Qasara (Cambridge, England) and Munich, Germany-based test and measurement group Rohde & Schwarz said they have verified and will showcase the ETSI 3GPP LTE TTCN-3 test cases during continuing inter-operability testing between Qasara's Virtual UE and Rohde & Schwarz's 3GPP LTE Virtual Tester.
The ETSI TTCN-3 test cases provide a formal, end-to-end verification of the LTE NAS attach, controlled bearer establishment, NAS/AS security procedures, U-plane data transfer and detach procedures between the LTE mobile and the network as specified by the 3GPP standard.
"This is a huge milestone in the development of our protocol stack and in the evolution of test cases for 3GPP," said Michael Barkway, Chief Executive at Qasara.
The companies plan to make the results of the verification programme available through the 3GPP standardisation process.
